Slopes

It is a pretty risky game to guarantee snow these days but you can be a lot more sure in some resorts than in others … and Saas Fee (aka The Pearl of the Alps) is arguably Autumn’s most snow-sure resort in Europe. The lovely pedestrianised village is located at 1800m but most of the skiing is between 2500 and 3500m and it has one of the largest glacier ski areas in the world meaning you can ski up to ten months per year there!

And Saas Fee is a mecca for national ski teams looking for a training facility in the Autumn – the American & Swiss downhill race teams train here as do the American freestyle team in the Stomping Grounds Park.

Accommodation

On the SnowSkool course in Saas Fee, you will be staying in the homely Hotel Rodania in Saas Grund. As standard, you will share an en-suite bedroom with one other person on the SnowSkool course (for a supplement there is the option to have a room for yourself so please just ask if you fancy this). Hotel Rodania is a great base for your intstructor training course with an in-house bar and games room with pool table and table tennis table so you can enjoy yourself and relax after your hard days training.

Your meals will be provided in the dining room at Hotel Rodania and we will provide breakfast (7 days per week), packed lunch (5 days per week) & evening meal (5 days per week).

Tuition

Your ski instructor training will take place during November in advance of the season opening in Japan in December. Tuition is offered by senior ski instructors from Somme-et-Neige ski school ... all of whom have experience training SnowSkool interns to hit the ground running in December as a fully-fledged ski instructor.

Qualifications

SnowSkool works with the Professional Ski Instructors of Europe (PSIE) on this course, offering the Level 1 qualification. This is a 4-day exam during which you will learn the skills to teach skiing to an intermediate level in an outdoor environment. You PSIE Level 1 is internationally recognised and will afford you the opportunity to work in Switzerland, Japan or Canada. It is also recognised in Australia should you wish to continue your career in ski instructing at a southern hemisphere resort.

Ski Instructor Work

After successful completion of your Level 1 qualification, SnowSkool students will be ready to work as a ski instructor. You will be placed into a ski school in Japan with some of your fellow trainees from Switzerland where you will work as an instructor for the remainder of the season. We have placements available across Japan in Hokkaido (Niseko region, Otaru region &, Asahikawa region) and Honshu (Nagano prefecture, Niigata prefecture and Iwate prefecture).
