Train and work in a single season

The SnowSkool internship at Marmot Basin gives you an incredible opportunity to train as a ski instructor and roll into a job with the ski school for the remainder of the season. We’ve deliberately started our training in January which not only means Christmas at home with family and friends but it also means missing the bitchin’ conditions in Canada in December - think minus 35 degrees (when even the marmots have to wear a woolly hat!

After completing your training as a ski instructor you’ll primarily work on the massive “School’s programme” that runs at Marmot Basin. You’ll be teaching local school kids as well as many international school groups. In the busier periods you’ll be employed full-time as an instructor teaching everyone from beginners to shredders! In the less busy periods you will be employed part-time by the ski school and (should you wish to max your earnings) other departments at the resort including rentals, lift operations, catering and transportation. More cash in your hand but also valuable experience across multiple resort departments to boost your CV and future employability

With truckloads of Alberta’s fluffiest & lightest powder, awesome tree skiing, sick chutes and huge bowls, 2 terrain parks (with small to XL features) and a season that runs through to the end of April … Marmot Basin is a sweet place to spend a season? That it just happens to be located in the unbelievably beautiful Jasper National Park only adds to the experience! On your days off you’re sure to be searching out the more gnarly parts of the mountain.

For your work as an instructor, Marmot has some pretty sweet mellow training areas which are great for your clients … that’s right, your clients!

Accommodation in Jasper

Staff accommodation in ski resorts has a bit of a bad rep – poor quality, cold, damp and eighteen people sharing a bunk room but there’ll be none of that for our SnowSkool guests in Marmot Basin. That’s why we’ve partnered with HI Jasper for your seasonal accommodation. Check out the photos … it’s modern, it’s always clean and tidy (you won’t need to clean a bathroom all season!), it’s got great facilities, it’s got great ski storage, the staff are super friendly and fix any building issues, someone changes and washes your bedding … and on top of all that, it’s a super chilled atmosphere. Where better to hang out and meet other like-minded young people?

On the SnowSkool Marmot Basin internship you’ll be sharing a 4-share room with other SnowSkoolers.

Tuition

You’ll arrive in Canada at the beginning of January and you’ll be straight into 14 full days of expert tuition under the guidance of some of Canada’s most experienced ski trainers. It’s going to be intense, but you’ll learn loads and you’ll be fully prepared to sit your CSIA Level 1 instructor exam by the end of January. You’ll be a certified ski instructor within 3 weeks of arriving in Canada … now that’s a fast track into the industry!

On completion of your training you’ll have a week shadowing some of the ski pros before you’re handed your ski instructor uniform and you’re out with your first group of clients! It may seem fast, and it may seem daunting but at SnowSkool, we have been doing this for more than 20 years and we’re confident that you’ll be excellently prepared to hit the ground running as a ski instructor for Marmot Basin.

Qualifications

At Marmot Basin, you’ll be going for the Level 1 qualification of the Canadian Ski Instructor’s Alliance (CSIA). This is an internationally recognised qualification that will allow you to work in the US, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and parts of Europe.
