Level 1 Ski Instructor Training in Big White

The SnowSkool experience ... condensed!

We've been operating ski instructor courses in Big White since it was called Little White - we've watched with pride as her reputation grew thanks to the great tree-skiing, the fluffy powder and the fantastic terrain, but such attributes did not go to her head and skis have remained on the snow!

“The community”. It is, somewhat unexpectedly, the most frequent answer given by our customers when asked “What was the best thing about the SnowSkool Big White ski instructor course?” Of course, we can’t focus on this on the website or in the brochure - you’ll book on the basis of the sweet pow, the luxury ski-in/ ski-out pads and the hot-tubs…ah, the hot-tubs...always the clincher! But great days come and go, there is always a nicer apartment and hot-tubs are basically a bath (with mates). What you will always remember is that feeling when you walk through the village, when you nod to that dude you kinda remember speaking to last night, when you stop for a gossip with whatshername from the Bakery or when you look the other way when youknowwho catches your eye!

That is the beauty of Big White and that is what will keep you coming back…

Slopes

Big White is one of the top ski hills in a country of top ski hills and is internationally renowned for so many different aspects of its skiable area. For all-round ski improvement, you need look no further as Biggie is a perfect natural playground with powder bowls, Canada’s best tree-skiing, the double-black Cliff Area and some super-zingy slopes where you can carve at the speed of sound. And, for the freestylers, the Park can be jacked-up to challenge even the gnarliest of freestyle skiers. For practice teaching, Big White has some ideal training terrain with wide-open slopes and a dedicated “learn-to-ski” area with magic carpet.

Accommodation + Meals

All SnowSkool apartments are ski-in/ ski-out…you’ll read this sentence more than once and it's not a mistake, I am deliberately repeating it because it is just so awesome! No early morning bus rides in the cold & dark Canadian mornings for you, just clip in at the back-door and away you go!  And here's just a selection of what the SnowSkool apartments have to offer:

  • Hot-tub access
  • Close to Village Centre
  • Free WiFi
  • Ski-in/ ski-out
  • Spacious, comfortable & homely
  • Fireplaces
  • Flatscreen TVs with Cable
  • DVD players
  • Stereos
  • Ski-in/ ski-out!!

Standard rooms are twin-share
Evening meals are provided 5-days per week as part your SnowSkool package
Oh...and they are ski-in/ ski-out

Tuition

More tuition is offered on SnowSkool Big White than on any other course. During the five weeks, tuition is offered five hours per day/ five days per week and all tuition is delivered by the most senior instructors in the Big White Ski & Board School. Most are Level 4 instructors but, certainly, all have Level 3 and bags of experience! Group sizes are kept small and will max out at eight per trainer. You’re in good hands!

Qualifications

Ski instructors in Canada are regulated by the CSIA (Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance). If you join this 5-week ski instructor course, you’ll have the opportunity to sit the Level 1 exam of CSIA which will entitle you to teach intermediate skiers on many different terrains

Your SnowSkool Rep

The job of the SnowSkool reps is to ensure that all elements of the SnowSkool programme come together and that you make the most of your season in Big White. The job description is detailed but the chosen ones have a few things in common; they are always nearby but never intrusive, they know everyone in resort (and everything that goes on), they never say no to a ski (or a beer), they know all the good powder stashes, they never run out of sympathy or praise, they always have a camera and notepad to hand, they know all the rules to all pub games and the first thing they put on each morning is their smile!
