After a rocky start due to crazy -30 degree temperatures causing flight delay,s and lift closures in resort half the group had arrived and were having lessons by Tuesday and the other half by Wednesday. Big White made up for the the initial weather chaos and disruptions with a lovely powder day on Wednesday and a great 17 cm dump! Thank you.
Classes will run until Saturday and a make-up class has been arranged to ensure no-one is missing tution time. These things are sent to test us and now we are all here and settling in the groups are looking forwards not backwards.
We have two groups in Big White - 14 skiers and 11 boarders. The skiers have been concentrating on the technicals to begin with - revisiting the foundations. But we see you jumping Zac! You 'airdog' you!
The boarders have been having a great time - enthused even into doing some mock lesson and curriculum learning already. These efforts will pay off in the weeks to come. Koby's confidence has spiked since doing some one on one tuition before rejoining the group.
Learning how to ski and board in groups can be quite an adjustment. There have been lots of falls this week, but the powder has made it like landing on pillows. On the flip side powder makes some of the techniques hard to learn. But if the group can master them in these conditions, Big White is sure to pop out some very technical and skilled skiers and instructors.
There are some sore feet - new kit or 5 plus hours skiing and boarding every day?
And then there's Sam's which is proving the be a crowd favourite for après ski.
The first week triumphantly under our belt, challenges overcome, bluebirds enjoyed and new skills developing, Friday evening was spent watching live music in happy valley day lodge.
Watch this space for more news over the next weeks.
