Ski instructor qualifications in France

Operating out of Méribel in the heart of the Three Valleys, SnowSkool France offers ski instructor courses that are governed by the BASI system (The British Association of Ski Instructors). The BASI governing body is an active member of the ISIA (International Ski Instructors’ alliance) an organisation acting to provide equivalency between the various different governing bodies worldwide. Within ISIA, BASI is well-regarded because of the requirement for candidates to experience working life as a ski instructor as an integral part of the certification programme.

BASI Level 1 Ski Instructor

description

This is a foot-in-the-door of the BASI system which is aligned to the Scottish Coaching & Qualifications Framework.  During the 4-day course, you will be assessed on your technical skiing and your teaching of skiing.

On the technical side you’ll need to be able to show your trainer short parallel turns on blue and easy red slopes while maintaining good speed and control; perform clean long carve turns for the last 2/3 of the turn on green and easy blue slopes and perform all phases of the Central Theme.

As a teacher, you’ll need to demonstrate and communicate the fundamentals of the Central Theme and be able to analyse students skiing using the Central Theme.  You’ll also need to demonstrate excellent communication skills and deliver feedback in a supportive and positive way.

To obtain your BASI Level 1 certification to teach, you will also need to complete 35 hours snowsport school experience, a first aid qualification and an online child protection module. If you're with us for 11-weeks then all this is included within your SnowSkool package.  With your Level 1, you’ll be able to work only on dry slopes or indoor snow slopes instructing novice and early intermediate skiers.
